Moran Mor Igantius Zakka I Iwas
Patriarch of Antioch & All the East
Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church

Dear Sayedna,

We are writing to you on behalf of Mennonite Central Committee and the global Mennonite church. Ron Byler and Don Peters serve as Executive Directors of Mennonite Central Committee U.S. and Canada respectively. Don Peters had the honour of meeting you briefly when he was in Beirut at the end of March, attending a training for Syrian church workers who are responding so courageously to the unfolding crisis in Syria.

Mennonite Central Committee has worked closely with Bishop Yohanna Ibrahim in Aleppo for many years. We appreciate very much his dedication to the people of Aleppo, his love for the church, and his leadership in the both the Christian and inter-faith community. We have not worked directly with Bishop Boulos Yazigi of the Greek Orthodox Church but we know of his work and the work of the Greek Orthodox during this very trying time.

When we heard news of the abduction of the two Bishops, we immediately sent word to the churches that support Mennonite Central Committee and called for prayer. Please be assured of our constant prayers for the safe return of Bishops Yohanna Ibrahim and Boulos Yazigi.

We extend our brotherly love to you, the Syrian Orthodox Church, the Christian community in Syria, and all peace-loving people in Syria. May you sense the presence of God during this very difficult time.

In Christ, the King of Peace

J Ron Byler Executive Director, MCC U.S.
Donald Peters Executive Director, MCC Canada
