His Holiness Receives Dr. Mohammad Abdul Sattar Al-Sayed, Syrian Minister of Endowments with a Delegation of Muslim Scholars in Damascus
On Wednesday June 04, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received the Syrian Minister of Endowments Dr. Mohammad Abdul Sattar Al-Sayed accompanied by a delegation of important scholars from Damascus. The delegation included the president of the Union of the Scholars of Damascus Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Toufic Ramadan Al-Bouty (son of the martyred Sheikh Mohammad Said Ramadan Al-Bouty), Dean of Sheikh Ahmad Kaftaro Institute Dr. Mohammad Sharif As-Sawaf, the Mufti of Damascus Sheikh Bashir Eid Al-Bari, Director of Institute for Islamic Conquest Sheikh Dr. Husam Ad-Din Farfour, the Mufti of Damascus and its countryside Sheikh Dr Adnan Afiouni as well as many scholars in the presence of their graces Mor Ivanios Boulos Al-Souki, Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak and Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury with some monks and priests.

In the beginning, the minister of endowments congratulated His Holiness for his installation as patriarch of Antioch and expressed his great pleasure and joy to work together with His Holiness and his aspiration to cooperate with him in the service of all the faithful in Syria. He said: “We are enjoying a twofold pleasure: first the victory of the country and values in the presidential elections and second the presence of your holiness together with the scholars in this national celebration”. He also referred to the special relations that the late patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas started between the ministry and scholars and the Syrian Orthodox Church.

In turn, His Holiness pointed out that he voted in the ministry of endowments and thus sent two messages: first that all the citizens of Syria came together on the presidential elections united to choose a president that can rebuild the country and man, second that all, Muslims and Christians, are united and firmly eager to refuse division, terrorism and extremism. His Holiness spoke of the role of religions in the service of man and working on the useful national projects and the development of the spirit of openness, acceptance and tolerance. He stated: “We consider all the Christians in Syria to be Syriac, and all the Syriac people in the world to be Syrians too. He added: we pray that peace will prevail in Syria especially after the election of a strong president who led and leads the people and nation to prosperity, victory, progress and growth”.

Many guests also spoke about the fact that true Muslims love the Lord Christ and His followers and hate those who hate Him or any other prophet. They called upon the Christians in the west to return to the Christianity found in Syria which abounds in true moral values and noble heavenly teachings.

In the end of the meeting, the Sheikhs and monks chanted religious hymns full of meaning and spirituality.
